chocolate bar packaging | fair trade | 2022
The goal of this project was to create packaging for a chocolate bar inspired by a country that produces cacao. The country I chose was Ecuador.
The deliverables for this project were a cohesive branding system and packaging design based off the research conducted. Additionally, the flavors had to be inspired by the country and an overview of the history of Ecuador was to be included as well. The overall design was also inspired by fair trade and organic ideas.
process
To begin this project, I first had to conduct research on the country of Ecuador. Right away I noticed the bright colors and elaborate textiles, and knew that I wanted to include them in my design. I also researched different ideas based on nature such as the country's national bird, flower, tree, and more.
After my initial research, I decided to begin brainstorming ideas for a logo and grid layout. My first ideas tried to incorporate the national bird, the Condor, and the national flower, the Chuquiraga.
After creating my initial design, I decided that the design had a strong start, but I needed to be more experimental. I realized I was playing it too safe, and also limiting myself by putting everything into a container. I also realized that I wanted to try something different and play with a typographic logo. I decided to try to focus on experimenting with the grid in a way that allowed for me to have a strong design. I also decided to look further into fonts and colors. This lead me to my final design.
